TURBINE WORKSHOP GUIDELINES - it is assumed that anyone who participates in a Turbine Arts Workshop has read and agreed to follow these Guidelines. If it's your first time with us, you will be asked to sign a copy.

COVID WAIVER & SAFETY - An inherent risk of exposure to COVID-19 exists in any public place where people

are present. COVID-19 is an extremely contagious disease that can lead to severe illness and death. Senior citizens and guests with underlying medical conditions are especially vulnerable. By visiting our workshops, you voluntarily assume all risks related to exposure to COVID-19. Do not attend if you’ve experienced any COVID-19 symptoms.

You assume the responsibility for your own physical safety, and have joined this workshop voluntarily. Please don’t attempt anything physically that you can’t handle. LEGAL DISCLAIMER: You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Turbine Arts Collective, Robert Watzke, Josh Willis, Theatre Planners, the Zephyr Theatre, Loft Ensemble, or any of the rental spaces we use, and their employees, members, and volunteers for any loss, liability, medical fees, damage or costs, including court costs and attorney fees, that may occur as a result of your participation in the activities of the workshop.

PAYMENT - Unless a workshop is free, workshop payments are due by the first meeting, NO EXCEPTIONS.

Payment is accepted by check, cash, or Paypal (with classes@turbine-arts.org as the recipient). If you are missing the first meeting of a monthly workshop, it is your responsibility to get the payment to us by the first workshop, preferably by Paypal.

ONE-NIGHT WORKSHOPS occur only on the scheduled meeting. We often use these to offer a subject in which

we don’t currently have a weekly workshop, or provide an introduction to an approach. There is no promise of further study that comes with a One-night Workshop.

MONTHLY WORKSHOPS – These are ongoing workshops. New workshop members are required to make a

two-month (six workshop) commitment to start, but it is not a progressive, or level-based workshop. Once that two months is up, if you and the Instructor agree it is appropriate to continue, you can renew on a month-to-month basis. We will fill open spots in the workshop when they are available. We are open and supportive of you leaving the workshop for as long as you choose, and we will make every effort to welcome you back, AS LONG AS SPACE IS AVAILABLE. We also reserve the right to conduct periodic reviews as to your continuing participation in the workshop.

FOUR-OR-SIX-WEEK WORKSHOPS are structured just for that time period. They often become Monthly

Workshops after the term is up.

LATE ARRIVALS – Workshops begin promptly at the appointed time. Please leave time to park, arrive, and get settled. The studios we are currently using are open early. PLEASE NOTE:

IF YOU ARE LATE, YOU RUN THE RISK THAT THE DOORS WILL BE LOCKED WITH NO ADMITTANCE. If you are a member of the weekly workshop and know you will be late, it's your responsibility to arrange arrival with the instructor. Please be aware the instructor might not be checking email/text right before the workshop start time. One-Night Workshops begin at the appointed time.

MISSING A NIGHT – If you know for sure you are MISSING a workshop, even if it’s at the last minute, please email your instructor and/or classes@turbine-arts.org, so we will know you are okay. SINCE WORKSHOP PRICES ARE KEPT LOW, THERE IS NO CREDIT OR REFUND GIVEN FOR A MISSED SESSION. However, if work or something unexpected takes you out of town or causes you to miss SEVERAL workshops in a row, we will work with you so you get your workshop time.

CANCELED WORKSHOPS - If we (Turbine Arts Collective) have to cancel a session for any reason, we will

provide a makeup session. If the makeup provided does not work for you, you will get a credit toward future tuition. If you choose not to continue with the workshop and thus cannot use your credit, you will get a refund for the canceled session.

IF YOU ARE SICK -- please do not come to workshop! Do not expose others to what you have. A good rule of

thumb is, if you feel the need to tell others you’re not feeling well, you’re too sick to be in workshop. Let’s take care of each other.

BREAKS – We will be following Actor’s Equity break rules. We will usually work 1 hour 15 minutes, then take a 10 minute break. The length of breaks does not allow time to go out for coffee, food, or much else. You have paid for your workshop and we want to use as much time as possible for you to play! Shorter workshops (90 minutes of less) might proceed without a break.

WEAR – clothes you can move and be comfortable in. Loose fitting rehearsal clothes. Flat shoes or sneakers, no flip-flops or high heels. Tight, revealing clothes are inappropriate for workshop no matter your gender. For improvisation workshops in particular, you may find yourself in all sorts of physical situations, dress modestly so you can play freely!

HYGIENE – we request that members observe good personal hygiene with attention to body odors and breath.

Please refrain from heavily scented perfumes or colognes, as they can cause adverse allergic reactions.

NO TEXTING, READING EMAILS, OR USE OF PHONES DURING WORKSHOP – Seriously, put it away.

Check it during the break. Bring a notebook if you like to take notes. NO PHOTOS OR RECORDING DURING

WORKSHOP.

NO EATING DURING WORKSHOP (DRINKS ARE OK) - Food can be eaten in the lobby or outside the theater

space before workshop or during the break. Please clean up after yourself and take all uneaten food with you at the end of the night.

VISITORS - No casual visitors are allowed. The best way for friends to learn what our workshop and approach is about is to attend and participate in one of our Intro Workshops (they are low-priced and we lay out the approach in an evening).

WORKSHOP CONDUCT - The atmosphere of our workshops is one of support and safety. Inappropriate conduct

will not be tolerated, and will be grounds for dismissal from the workshop. This includes, but is not limited to, physically threatening or sexually aggressive actions, intentionally intimidating another student, putting another student in a physically unsafe position, disrespecting another student's sexual orientation or ancestral background, or treating issues like sexual abuse as a grounds for comedy. Keep in mind, the two easiest and most overused actions in improvisation are to use anger or sex as a way to control a scene. Make it your goal to take care of your fellow players onstage. We want to explore multiple themes in our work, especially those of you who are in the workshop for long stretches and get to know each other well. We will keep a dialogue open, do not hesitate to raise areas of concern with your Instructor, either during the workshop or privately.

SHOWING UP TO THE WORKSHOP UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF DRUGS OR ALCOHOL will be grounds

for immediate and permanent dismissal from the workshop.

PROPERTY - Any student who breaks, destroys, or damages theater or venue property will be responsible for paying for repairs.
